‘Round this time of year people are running around like crazy; everything is scattered while people try to maintain festive, fun lives. If makeup is not your strong suit, keep your look simple and longwearing. When you have a day ahead that is too busy to think about makeup and you want a go-to classic look, here is how to keep it modern and feel like a champ.
THE CLASSIC LOOK
This winter, think about putting the gloss away and leaning more towards a matte lipstick or stain. The other day when it was to-the-bone cold here in NYC, my faux fur snood was possibly more on my gloss than around my neck: not a good look!
Here are some lip colors that I’m loving this time of year that keep you hydrated and keep your pout in line with that classic winter kiss:
- Chanel Rouge Allure Intense Longwear Lipcolour in 99 Pirate ($35):
A Classic Red
- Nars Velvet Matt Lip Pencil in Damned ($25):
A Rich Magenta
- Bobbi Creamy Matte Lipcolor in Red Carpet ($26):
A Neutral Red with 8 hours of staying power
We all know that full, luxurious eyebrows are back and we are all so happy about that. If your brows are sparse or need a little love, be sure to brush them up first to see where you need to fill in. If you have a scar or an area totally naked of hair, this is when a pencil is great. Otherwise, I am a big fan of brow powders and a setting product. A powder is going to color the hair instead of the skin, making the brow more natural and not “makeup-y.”
- Anastasia of Beverly Hills Brow Genius kit ($24)
This kit will include a brow color, waterproof, clear gel and brow brush.
- MAC Eyebrow Pencil ($16)
This pencil is self-sharpening and is small enough to be natural.
- Makeup Forever Brow Pencil ($19)
I love this pencil because it is highly pigmented, and does not take a lot of effort to get your result. The product is dry because none of us want a wet brow.
One sweep of a pretty shimmer shadow from your ocular bone down to your lash line will catch the light as you walk and make the world want to know you. Okay, maybe it’s not that powerful but, keep your hopes high! Shimmer is not age limited and is great for those without a great deal of time, as the precision of a matte shadow is not needed as much. Try these below shades that can carry you from day to night.
- Sigma Eyeshadow in Fawn ($11) :
mushroom hue appropriate for all seasons
- Sonia Kashuk Eye Quad in Showstoppers ($13.69):
four shadows that can help create endless looks (The top right bronze is one of my favorites ever!)
- Makeup Forever Eye shadow Diamond Finish in Taupe Platinum ($21)
This tone is great for deeper toned skin as a neutral.
Those of us lucky enough to have gotten a few tan lines have, well, lost them by now. This is okay! Your winter skin tone, whatever that is, is beautiful and, to me, makes makeup that much more impactful. For blush, you want to find one that will create that “just walked out of my apartment into a snowfall on my way to get hot chocolate with extra marshmallows with a friend” flush. Blush should look like it is coming from within and blend until you cannot see where it stops and starts!
- Loreal True Match Blush in Bare Honey ($10.95) :
a warm, peachy tone that is super blendable
- Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in Chocolate Cherry ($27):
This is a cheek and lip product. Use sparingly, as it is highly pigmented and works similar to a stain giving a wash of color.
- Nars Blush in Outlaw ($30) :
a medium rosy shade with a golden shimmer that isn’t distracting and is beautiful on a range of skin tones
